Whew! need to vent...The JW'S just knocked on my door pushing a tract. Instead of being cool and calm I lashed out in anger. I told them they were a bunch of false prophets. I sited 1975 debaucle and the old lady denied it! I cold her a liar. She stated she was not here to argue. I said, "well then just run, run from your false prophet religion as fast as you can!' The young man with her eyes got big as Ping pong balls. So much for intelligent apologetics, Anger ruled the day...maybe next time I'll be prepared...Oh well, just venting, I feel better already....Peace....

Hello, I'm new to the board. I was raised a JW--my mother converted when I was 5 (before the Truth book--she studied Paradise Lost. In fact, I learned to read on this book). I was disfellowshipped in january of 1980. I went through RCIA in 1993, baptized, confirmed, first communion in 94.
When the JWs come to my house, I tell them that I'll take their literature and I'll even read it, but only with the understanding that if they return, I will accept it as a request to help them escape the brainwashing of the JW cult.
My sister thinks I'm silly and should just say no thank you and shut the door.
When I was a Witness, I HATED field service. If someone had said that to me, I would probably been horrified at first, but it would have gnawed away at me.

Welcome to the post, demeris!!!
Things have been extremely quiet at this site for several weeks! I admit I've never been a big contributor to the posts, (so I'm really no one to talk) but I check it all the time.
I think you've got the right idea regarding the visiting Witnesses.
From all I've learned (largely from this site) it is better not to "slam the door" or to be rude, but to slowly engage them... sewing small seeds of doubt about their beliefs. Of course, it can take many return visits, a lot of your time and patience, and you have to be up on your bible knowledge and RC apologetics... so you don't get caught off guard.
In the past, I have made the same mistake that your sister suggested and gave them the "brush off"... but that only convinces the JWs that they are doing Jehovah's work and being rejected by the "goats" of this wicked system.

It is GREAT! and full of the very same issues! Notice too, how many pages are in this posting! One of the biggest!

Yes, welcome demeris. I posted this topic in April of this year, finally got some feedback...lol...I wanted to buy a book from TAN publishing about specific evangelization to JW's but it is always sold out. Hopefully it will be available soon. This isn't the most active sites, but I check it every couple weeks. Today I'm glad I did...peace...

Sorry I didn't see this when it came up. I've been busy with other things...like work  .
First, do remember to keep calm. Respectful engagement is the best course. Also remember that not everyone had the same experience as you.
I personally liked Field Service and would probably happily return to the Witnesses. I was raised a Witness and my family goes back three generations with the Witnesses. Field Service to me was talking about what I loved most and hanging out with people I enjoyed being around.
To that end, I'd be careful with talking about brain washing. The Witnesses make a very compelling but very flawed argument. Address that not the emotions. By calling it brainwashing you are unintentionally belittling those folks at your door. I do suggest reading the thread mentioned. It has key points you may enjoy and be able to use.
