I have the CD now of the 3 Catholic Parishes my family were in. Hope I find something........... It is your best hope I think, Anne. What with potato blights and starvation every few years, I guess nobody really saw the need to keep super-accurate records. What they did choose to keep was subject to the "sands of time." Paper doesn't hold up all that well to floods and fire. Best to you in your endeavor! Carlos

LOL...my family is recorded back to the 1100s and the 1500s respectively - and I still have no idea who I am. I am who I am I guess. Not bad, all things considered.

Ya know, Anne...the Irish weren't the wealthiest of folks (in a monetary sense, that is). If you had "extra," you went to the pub. If you want real hard cash, see if you have any Welsh relatives. They're known for pinching pennies and stuffing them in mattresses around the house...or burying them in coffee cans in the backyard. I'm convinced that there are billions of pounds hidden in boxes throughout Wales.

Carlos,
I am Welsh ,generations Welsh and my ex husband family go way way back so my Family are happy about that.I know what you mean about saving money in tea pots and cans mattresses etc:I actually know of a rellie who still does this, trouble is as she gets older she cannot remember where everything is.
I have an Irish Uncle who did the same and when my bro was decorating his room for them he came across wads of cash in newspaper ............I think you could be right about those hidden boxes.
Well this genealogy is keeping me busy ,I have been busy trying to get my finds in some kind of order.... A lot of these genealogy sites cost a lot. A bro of mine deals with that side of it. Some librarians have been really helpful, and a friend.

I have been shocked at how Catholics were treated so badly. It has been the same in Wales. Such is the nature of world power. With the empire the Brits had, the wealth was redirected and when bad things happened to "the conquered," there was nothing left in reserve to bale them out...and not much motivation on the part of the queen to rescue the afflicted. That's why there's still animosity between the English and the Irish. Just about 30 years ago some men were arrested right here in Montana, USA for raising arms for the IRA. Go figure! Carlos

Well I have visited Ireland for 5 days ,,,,,,,, very interesting and wished I had more time....
Our research led us to Clonakilty , where I am told my ancestors came from ...we saw a statue of O Donovan Rossa and asked about him , seems he was famous..... we visited the Immaculate Conception church and School. where Michael Collins was and saw a Photo on the wall with a Jeremiah, we are wondering if there is any connection? as most of Cork has Donovans and O Donovans, seems the O was dropped...........wonder why???Fennians?
Seems Pope Pius 1x did not approve of the Fennians.
also visited Cork public museum and Gaol heritage Centre which made us weep. as did the CobH ,the Queenstown story.
shame we only found one pub with Irish music, I expect there is more . It was veryexpensive also.... I intend visiting again next year hopefully for a longer stay.
info of Dominicans was also around..
People seemed friendly and not much hatred for the English around as someone said the past is past.....
